Hope this hasn't been posted before, think it has only been revealed in the last year. I love this one, has a real feeling of musty old age to it. It's on Tong Road by the White Rose Banqueting Suite.

Did anybody see or manage to photograph a sign on Harehills Lane corner before you turn left onto Compton Road?

The advertising hoarding above the barber shop was taken down but has since been replaced.
Underneath was a well preserved sign for cigars.
5 I think for 1/9d,10 for 3/6d.
Wish I had taken the time to snap it.
The outline is visible on street view.

A hasty, zoomed shot through the windscreen whilst sat at the lights, so poor quality.

I'm not sure if this very obvious "Spillers" name does qualify under the 'Signs of old leodis'. I've searched SL under Spillers and Spiller's but nothing relevant came up. I took the photo on September 1 2015 of this building at 46 The Calls. I'm guessing that the premises may once have been used by Spillers flour millers but I've not been able to fairly readily find any information so I would be grateful if anyone can provide some.

Rishworth, Ingleby & Lofthouse [Branch of Spillers] - Flower Millers.
It seems as though they've been going since at least the 1890's.
Originally from Hull, R, I & L were bought out by Spillers along with several other regional firms. The names of the constituent companies being retained as part of the "Good will" of the sale agreements.

Lots of interesting little bits on the net including this from the Harrogate Herald 9th May 1917;

"Second Lieutenant G H Lofthouse, East Yorks Regt, youngest son of Mr T G Lofthouse, Arrowfield, Boroughbridge, previously reported missing on April 23rd, is now reported killed on that date. He was educated at Aysgarth and Malvern College, and prior to joining the Army in August, 1914, was with the firm of Rishworth, Ingleby, and Lofthouse (Ltd), Hull. He went to the Front in May, 1916, and was wounded in the following September. He returned to the Front at the beginning of this year"

Thanks liits for that interesting (and partly sad) information.
