That's the place although I believe it is more ruinous now.

There are some good photos on the Leodis site showing it in its original position before being moved.Interesting area around Stonegate Rd. There is the post in the field near there commemorating the Oates family and a very intersting tump in the school grounds alleged to be a civil war burial but to my eye looking very like a tumulus! I used to live about 400 yards from the Revolution Well, so know the area well. As well as the sites you mentioned, there used to be a well underneath where King Alfred's Castle was. It's now underneath housing I think. I went back today and stood close to the spot where the well must have been. As I suspected, the place where the well was is now in the garden of one of the houses on King Alfred's Drive. I'm pretty sure the rocks in the distance of my photo match the rocks under the castle.

I'm pretty sure I could find it again but I don't live in Leeds anymore and it'll have to wait till I next visit. I hope to get across in the next few months and will try to photo it for you. This is a photo of where we were always told as kids there used to be a tunnel linking up with the Revolution Well in Stonegate Road. It's a rectangular depression about 0.5m deep and on 2 sides it is lined with large cut stones. No idea what it is. It's about 100m from the area where the above well was.

I looked at the Revolution Well yesterday as i had stopped over at a friends in Parkland crescent. I have seen the pictures on Leodis about it. I thought it had been moved over the road from the other side, but now wonder if it was just moved up the road when the estate was built.Regarding Tunnel Howe hill well, thanks for the new picture. If it is in a garden that would explain why I couldn't find it. have to see if I can peer over some fences<LOL>.

It just occurred to me to ask if anyone can look on Google earth at gardens near Tunnel Howe for signs of a well, spring etc. I am still on dial up so don't use Google Earth as it takes too long to load.

Hi SteveAttached is a photo from Google Earth of where I think the well would have been: in the back garden of either the right-hand semi, or the garden of the lefthand side of the flats (the long building). I couldn't see any sign of anything but the garden of the semi wasn't easy to see in to. You could always try knocking on a door and asking if they have noticed anything. It looks to me (from the photo on Leodis) as though the Revolution well was moved to other other side of the road as well

Hi again Steve. I've had a look on Google Earth (also 192.com & maps.live - both inferior quality) and can't see anything obvious. The photo above is of the area where I found the 'hole' where we thought the tunnel was as kids. It's in amongst the light coloured trees just above the middle of the photo. If you go have a look around, it's just the the right (ie east) of a couple of 5' high stone gateposts. I've a photo of them if you want me to post it.

Thanks for the pictures. I see the area you mention regarding the "hole". doesn't look particulary clear. i might have to resort to knocking on doors next time i am round that way.this does actually produce results as I remember in the 1990's looking for a well around Rawdonand getting some good information and being taken to the site itself.
