Are these places the same?

At first I was pretty sure I knew where it was but on closer inspection it doesn't seem to match at all.

I honestly couldn't work it out as the buildings to the left of the archway seem to have lost the top floor and even more confusing additional buildings seem to be built further left now but they still look the same age as the rest. Also the windows have all changed positions. It was a real head scratcher for me thanks for confirming it

I've been familiar with Armley Town Street on and off for most of my life. I was brought up in Armley, when I was first married we lived for a couple of years in Armley and I've had a couple of spells working (police) in West Leeds. More recently, my mother lived in Armley from 1987 till just before her death in 2015. When she went into a residential home in 2014 it was near the location pictured and for a couple of years before that, I regularly used to drive her past here every couple of days.

When I saw the English Heritage pic in your post I had no doubt about the location before I had read any text: it's so distinctive.

I think there's been quite a lot of refurbishment in the last few years in connection with the work done on various bits of Armley Town Street, such as the posh paving. I'm no streetview expert but I think you can look back at different image captures. Obviously, you can only go back to the first streetview, not the Dark Ages, but if you know how to do that, it may illustrate some of the most recent changes.

It is the same location around No's 94/96/98, etc., Town Street, Armley. To the right is Moor View (No's 1 - 3) which overlooks Armley Moor (where the feast used to be held) . On the old photograph, the first house to the left of the arch looks to be still original but I don't know what is behind the blue shutter on the new photograph, probably a shop. I think that, on the old photograph, everything to the right of this old building, including the arch, has been rebuilt as nothing else is the same and the stone on the new photograph looks fairly new, but the building at the far right side with the sloping roof is still part of 1 Moor View. Finally, on the old photograph, the buildings to the left side appear to have all been replaced. This might help:

This is now called Weavers Court and is, I believe, run by a Housing Association. The shop to the right that at this time seems to be a cobblers was a Pet Shop when I was young. I often bought supplies there for various rodents in the Seventies. It's a great looking building in the old photograph. It still is now. Glad it was saved and re-purposed.

P.S. It's not the same. It's on Armley Town Street but further up and on the other side. Between the Little Moor and Thornton Gardens.

The premises on the photographs are located as described above in earlier posts. The premises are not Weavers Court which is located a few hundred yards away on the opposite side of Town Street, above Wortley Road.

Unless I’m missing something obvious and despite being unfamiliar with the vicinity I’m going to have to agree with Shutthatdoor and disagree with two former Police Officers.

Polos’ original link to the “current” location clearly shows it to be 119 Town Street although numbering on these Streetview images can be slightly awry if you can’t zoom in to a door plate. If you zoom in the shops appear to be in the 90s
https://www.instantstreetview.com/@53.7 ... .01p,1.51z
Polos’ contemporary view shows 6/7 two storey buildings with 6 shop fronts (1 a double?) to the left of the building with the blue shutter adjacent to the archway. The first step of the entrance to the first shop to the left of the blue shutter is directly adjacent to the front of the wall on which the blue shutter is fitted. The entire parade of shops is therefore set back from the wall with the and arch blue shutter. These shops are in buildings which have clearly been around for many decades

The English Heritage Link is marked 151-159 Town Street. It only has 3 or 4 buildings to the left of it before a tree. Those buildings are all 3 storey and are not set back from the arch.

I believe the detached house on the attached image from this streetview https://goo.gl/maps/fGfUoEuL2hD2 has 163 scrawled on the brickwork adjacent to the ajar door.

The map icon bottom left suggests 151 even though the menu top right suggests 132. It is predominantly Weavers Court. It is all 3 storey with a flat front. I believe the set back detached house has been built in the footprint of the shop to the far right of the English Heritage image. The windows all along the 3 storey building pretty much match those in the English Heritage image.
