I don't think that pond is that old. I remember it being dug about 25 years ago....... unless I'm wrong..

Hi sparky415 :).

The footbridge (marked as F.B.) and what is almost certainly the pond are shown going back to at least an 1893 1:2,500 map in the Old Maps UK website. The pond is occasionally cleared of rubbish and weeds so perhaps that is what you saw.

I don't know if the pond ever had a specific purpose but if it did I wonder if it was to do with the flax mill that used to be close by, though it always seems to have only been a small pond.

Hi, yes, it must have been filled in for many years and dredged when I remebered it....
