The 'Thornton's Buildings' on The Headrow.

Post by Leodian »

High up on the Thornton's Buildings on The Headrow there is a nice 'Anno Domini 1873' feature which may not be that well known so I thought I would post these 3 photos that I took on Feb 21 2017. The first is a close-up of the feature, the second shows The Headrow frontage of Thornton's Buildings and the third is a close-up of its name high up at the junction of The Headrow and Lands Lane. The plural use of 'Buildings' is interesting as I would have otherwise have called it Thornton's Building.

It was quite common for residential blocks and tenements to be called " XXXXX Buildings" even though there was only one block.
