Belushi's did a fantastic burrito, and a great piece of blueberry pie to follow. The drink of choice was Budweiser Budvar. I loved this place. I believe it had to close because of a threatened lawsuit by John Belushi's widow or someone, who wanted to open a Blues Brothers Café in London. A massive loss to Leeds but hey, #memories

(Mine isn't, I'd confused it with Kitson!)
So far as I recall the new build began as Kitson. I went there the day it opened. As I remember its opening was delayed by a few weeks, which we spent at the Mechanics Institute next door, now a museum. That would mean the building was erected and opened around 1963 - 1964 (probably the latter). I also did a more recent C&G course at Kitson in 1997, by which it might have had another name - around the same time (1997) I also attended Leeds Poly on a specialised course.

I was a student in Leeds from 1986 to 1989 and loved my time there. I paid a brief visit in 1991 but left the UK in 2007. Up in Headingly I used to visit various pizza takeaways. One was next to either The Skyrack or The Original Oak. I forget which side they wrre on but this pizza place was on the left hand side as you go into Headingley from the town centre.

The second pizza store was either next to or behind the Lounge cinema on North Lane. There was a sort of small square/plaza opposite.

In the heart of student land Leeds 6 there was Tony's - great pizzas but they didn't deliver so I only went if I was passing.

Closer to my student digs at Station Parade was DialaPizza (they also did DialaCurry). Back then a pizza cost around £2.99! I still have one of their menus.

Any ideas what the unnamed pizza stores were called and when did they close?

Welcome CPLMARR. The Skyrack is on the left haeading out of Leeds into Headingley and I think Harpo's was the Pizza place just past it. It's not quite a lost establishment though as it has relocated to Street Lane Moortown/Rounday https://harpospizza.co.uk/

Yes it was Harpos. How about the one near the Lounge Cinema?
We used to celebrate birthdays at a nice small bistro right opposite the cinema or sometimes at an Italian restaurant on the main road in Headingley where the chef used to sing to the customers.
Happy times but I bet so much has changed. Shame the old arcades in the city centre have gone.

Schofields and Burtons arcades have gone with rebuildings, but the "Malls" are a modern equivalent, and there are several of those.

Thanks for the replies. The Italian restaurant with the singing chef was SALVOS. It still exists but the singing chef died in 2007.
I was also referring to those small arcades off the main streets in the city centre. They had wrought iron and stained glass and were full of small boutique shops. Was one called the Empire? I thought they had gone when Harvey Nicks was built? I am recalling from my time there nearly 30 years ago now on the other side of the world so apologies if I misremember.

The Empire Arcade was quie modern, created when the Empire Theatre closed (1960s?). Of the earlier arcades, Queens, Thorntons, Grand, and Mecca arcades remain. Anyone recall any others not so far mentioned?
