Fire at the disused Polestar Petty printing building off Whitehall Road, Holbeck.

Post by Leodian »

This is a link to a report of a major fire today (Oct 7 2016) at what is reported to be the currently disused Polestar Petty printing building off Whitehall Road, Holbeck. It is reported however that the fire is not thought to be deliberate. So more of the printing history in Leeds seems to have been lost. http://www.itv.com/news/calendar/2016-1 ... -of-leeds/

Polestar Petty closed its doors in December 2014 and about 250 people lost their jobs. It is just one of a large number of print shops closing down over the last few years, in Leeds and across the county. People are going abroad to get cheap print in the far east and some European countrys.

So luckly todays fire was at an empty factory, unlike the fire in Cross Green today at the glass bottle factory where a number of people were still working when the fire broke out.
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Hmmm.
Disused empty factory goes up in flames yet not thought to be deliberate.
Spontaneous combustion is alive and well it would seem. ;)

Could be a West Country Mouse that has moved North, Ikea had their eye on the disused Bristol Rovers Stadium for their new furniture site but it was deemed an area for leisure. Then one dark night fire consumed all of the main stand and adjoining buildings.
The cause was attributed to a mouse chewing through an electric cable and guess what company has it's store on that site.

It's been happening for years down in the midlands, especially Birmingham. Mainly pubs, but others also, and often with some sort of preservation order on them or about to be placed on them.

Here in Gloucester by the Docks a £50 million development was been held up by the Council still not getting it's hands on two derelict wharehouse / buildings which for the last 20 years have been becoming more and more of an eyesore, roofs falling in etc. They were listed building originally but the Council overruled that in their haste to take possession Stumbling block was the property's were privately owned and they would not meet the owners price. This was in March but since then BOTH properties have been destroyed by a couple of Teenagers and now the area is being demolished as it is "Dangerous to the Public" even though it has always been fenced off. Looks like everything is going ahead and the Teenagers are to appear in Court anytime now.

They could go to prison and it is possible they may have to do their time in the Bahamas
