Looking at the pic ste i'd say it looks only a few hundred yards down from the abbey on Abbey rd. There's a bit of a park there with benches where the light railway terminates. I wonder if there was a lodge there at one time?

I wonder if there is something int he Leeds Transport Books. There must be as there are LOADS of photos in there. I'll have a look later unless someone else comes back first.

Ok Phil i've been on the maps and there is nothing there until the 1909 map when the pavement becomes set back and there is a building marked - Lodge. Weird though that there is nothing there before that as the building looks older than that imo (but i'm obviously wrong)

Just had a look on the map too, and it looks like the lodge is an entry gtate for the park around Kirkstall Abbey. I wonder if it was built when the council took control over the abbey grounds with the big 'push' on the whole civic priode thing and the provision of green space aroung the city. It is quire reminiscent of the one at Roundhay Park that I mentioned on another thread. Gates at Princes Avenue, They appear on maps around this time, were not on any previous ones, and then disappear? Stranger and stranger.....

stevief, is that not the Vesper Gate that the website menitons? I thought this as on the other side of the road near the Vesper Gate pub, just behind it somewhere?
