Thanks chemimike. Excellent.This confirms the tales that we'd heard had been published by the YEP and adds a bit more detail.New information is the source of the tale of the soldiers, one Mr Thomas Weare, Registrar of Leeds Parish Church [and/or his granddad], and also the claim [contradicted in the earlier version] that the bodies weren't found for many years.I don't think we've had any of that info before.Cheers.

This information also pinpoints the time of the alleged deaths as being the Peninsula War period, so it also gives a time frame for searching the papers to see if we can finally nail down the story; which is something we haven't had before.well done on finding these.

It's also possible that Thomas Weare's granddad made up the tale to entertain his grandson, as granddads often do! I do tend to favour Radestock's theory. For anyone new to the thread, here's the clipping:

I tend to go with Radestock myself as the explanation for where the 2 skulls came from
