I'm going back over 25 years now as a kid I was taken to a big rock (which I was told was an asteroid) that was somewhere behind in a field off Deanswood Drive. I was about 9 at the time and i'm sure you tend to blow things out of proportion when your that age and what you see so I was wondering if anyone who lived in that area (or estate) that can shed any light on this and where abouts it is again.

I may be wrong but I thought there is a rock known as the Buckstone that is near to Buckstone Avenue which is itself near to Deanswood Drive. I live not far away yet I've never been to the site where I thought the Buckstone rock is. I must go and check one day!

I've found this very small photo of the Buckstone Rock in a Meanwood Valley Trail section of the Leeds City Council website. The photo was captioned "The Buckstone, near Adel Moor and the Buckstone estate".

In regard to the Buckstone (named as the Buck Stone on maps that I've seen) it is named on an 1851 map and all the way through to at least a 1965 map. The image is a copy of part of an 1893 map in the Old-Maps UK website. It shows the Buck Stone fairly near the Seven Arches aqueduct. In the image there is a small area named 'Magazine'. In view of the many sandstone quarries in the nearby area I wonder if it actually was a store of explosives (and if so hopefully there is none still there, hidden).

The other interesting thing on the map is just above buckstone and there is a building marked as magazine? Was there a shooting range or something bigger ?

for me the other interesting thing is the spring marked just below the magazine and to the north west of the stone.I wonder if this was a sacred one/ these standing stones were oftennear holy wells etc.
Steve JonesI don't know everything, I just like to give that impression!
