SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

Does anybody know much about the building below. It is situated just outside of Beeston, on Crow Nest Lane. Something just draws me to it. I first noticed it whilst out walking a few months back and seemed like a derelict farmhouse with a load of rubbish and scrap metal at the back.http://tinyurl.com/6rm6agyAlso seems to have a fairly aged old barn opposite.

I don't think much has changed since I left the area just over 10 years ago. At the time the owners lived in the "farm house" and had built the brick houses backing onto the hill in the photo for their son's. I certainly never remember it as a working farm although there were usually a couple of ponies in the field where the houses (shoeboxes?) to the right are just above the London line. I can't remember the exact business of the owners at the time but they did have a lucrative sideline in that they used much of the area between Windmill Hill and the railway down to Elland Road as a car park on match days and for other major events (mormon conference?). Entry was usually off Crows Nest Lane and exit onto Elland Road, by the railway bridge, which meant you were then initially forced onto the Ring Road east or west. I have seen it still used for this purpose within the last 18 months so suspect its still happening

Might be a good opportunity for a certain photographer to get in and have a nosy about for us.

Crow nest farm is owned by a Character I first met thirty odd years ago Arthur Newton, ex rugy player (No idea if Pro or Amateur) turned builder.http://www.checksure.biz/company/NEWTON ... 7457.htmHe is retired and non too well these days His Son mostly runs the business now.I don't know if they still do but at one time they made cement "coffin covers" used when a second burial went over the top of the original, IE husband now joining wife or vice versa kind of thing.I wouldn't poke around too much He has a big Dog! (only kidding)Kango     Didn't know if it was still occupied or a tad derelict as it looks in the pix posted, that's why I made the comment on our local digger taking a few snaps before it goes the way of other buildings in Leeds.

Hello AllI love this site its so interesting. I also came across the hidden leeds site, that has a few interesting comments on it too. Not sure if i am allowed to copy and paste these so please forgive me if i have done something i should not do. Here are the posts i am talking about.
