In a post of mine on July 8 2015 I posted some photos I had taken on July 7 of a building next to the Lamb & Flag that I had thought was going to be part of the Lamb & Flag but which is not. Being able to get a bit closer to the building these are 3 of the photos I took on July 15. In the first there seems to be an interesting change in the brickwork that looks like another structure was built over an existing building at some stage. The second photo shows some of the impressive girders/roof beams and the third photo shows a view looking towards Leeds Minster with the Lamb & Flag off to the left behind the fence.

I wonder if anyone knows any information about the building, which seems to be being demolished rather than renovated?

I posted some photos on July 8 and 20 of work going on at a building that is (currently at least) only seen closely by going down a short non-through way off High Court between the Lamb & Flag and another building (see the third photo in my post on July 8). Having a look at the work there on July 28 I noticed this bricked-up doorway (?) that I not spotted before. It is right at the end of the Lamb & Flag building and may be part of that, though if so it has not been renovated (yet!). The 'door' does look as if it could be out of alignment (or I was not standing straight when I took the photo!). It is an interesting feature and I wonder if anyone knows anything of its history, such as how long it may have been bricked-up?

These are a couple of photos that I took on September 1 2015 of the old building next to the Lamb & Flag. When compared to my earlier posts more of the building has now been demolished, leaving currently what would be a nice view of Leeds Minster if it were not for the trees! The graffiti is still surviving :).

These are a couple of photos of the site that I took on September 16 2015. The first shows that there has been more demolition. The second shows that some of the graffiti still survives!

These buildings were on BBC Inside Out this week.

The guy who owned these three buildings had hoped to sell them to create housing but the housing boom collapsed and the bank Dunbar Bank recalled the loans and he became bankrupt on the way that they calculated the loan owed.

Effectively Dunbar Bank (part of Zurich Bank) recalled the loan and made stupid assessments of the value of the property and land. So Zurich Bank now own those buildings and will have sold what is now the Lamb and Flag and probably made a huge profit from just one of the buildings.

In 2015, small business owners and property developers in Britain complained that Zurich’s British subsidiary, Dunbar Bank, had treated them unfairly by calling in loans quickly in order to wind down its loan book after the parent company pulled out of the specialist UK property market in 2010. They claimed that 71 Dunbar borrowers had been made bankrupt in the following five-year period, many more than by any of Britain’s very much larger high street banks. One Dunbar customer wrote: "Dunbar’s latest set of accounts show that over 95% of its loan book is now classified as impaired or overdue, the equivalent figure for UK Asset Resolution, the country’s bad bank, is just 37%".

If you want to watch the programme its available on BBC Iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06b341m

Thanks buffaloskinner for that interesting link. :)

Having now watched through the relevant part of the linked item a reason why the area has taken so long to be developed now seems fairly clear.

Hi. Yes it is intriguing. I wonder when the building's appearance was changed or was it demolished and replaced?

The buildings on the right of the hyperions picture no longer exist, they were demolished to make way for the road now called High Court

See maps below from 1909 and 1964
