Thanks for the updates. It would be interesting to discover more about the beck being diverted a it would seem to be quite a major operation given everything else in the area - wasn't the reason for Millgarths design due to the building straddling the beck rather than being on top of it?

It also reminds me of the excellent Urbex photos posted elsewhere on the net of a journey along the beck underneath the city

I've noticed that the Victoria Gate webcam now has a second camera that looks across the site from Harewood Street (the first one looks from high up on building on Eastgate close to Vicar Lane). This is the link to both webcams http://hammerson.reachtimelapse.co.uk/victoriagate/

I dont think the beck is being diverted based on this plan:

I took this photo on January 15 2015 of digging going on immediately to the right of where Millgarth Street was where that came off George Street. It does seem to being dug deeper than elsewhere in the immediate area so I wonder why? The digger presumably cannot though go much deeper, if only for safety reasons. The digging is at about where the water container is in the photo taken on December 11 2014 of the view from George Street that I posted on December 12.

A couple of reasons why so deep, one definite and one possible. the digging still seems to be at a level where Millgarth had cellars or it may be part of the foundations. They at least will need to be cleared hence the depth. I doubt if anything that existed before on the car parks had or needed such substantial foundations.

The possible reason is that from memory this is where the multi storey car park is going so is it possible it will have a few levels underground?

The Lady Beck runs under what was Millgarth.

Look for the threads on Lady Beck/Meanwood Beck, lots of images from the underground tour and an above ground map of the hidden route by a former contributor ;)

Regarding the culverted Lady Beck, a report titled 'Hammerson UK Properties Plc. Multi-storey car park (MSCP). Foul Sewerage and Utilities Statement Addendum. CP9. Issue/27 June 2014' may be of interest. This is the link to it:- http://tinyurl.com/lmgow3g (I have used Tiny URL to reduce what was a very long url).

The pdf file may take some while to load and may need Adobe Reader to view it. There are maps on page 6 and 7 that may help in understanding what is proposed (they are best read enlarged). From the maps I initially thought that the deep digging seen in the photo I posted on January 16 2015 was where a new sewer would be, but on checking closer that seems to be a little bit further away.

I note that in the document it states "It is proposed that the Lady Beck will be retained on its current alignment".
