@Leodian - it actually was demolished during the construction of the Leeds Station South Entrance, while they used this whole area as storage for building materials that were shipped up the river to the building site. Many people complained when they heard this was going to happen, and received a letter saying sorry, but it's going to go.

So imagine my and others' surprise when, after the LSSE was completed, the stones were put back together and the arch returned! I don't know the story about why they put it back - I find it hard to believe a construction company would do it just out of the goodness of their hearts.

This might be of interest, it's a photo from 1973 one of a collection I have been trying to determine the locations of for the Yorkshire Archaeological and Historical society.

From at least 1950 to 1969 Hills were on Meadow Lane. In the 1973 phone book they are on Clarence Road

Thank you for that excellent photograph. The number 10 is also seen well when enlarging the image.

i wonder if any body could help?
my wife had family living at no50 and 72 water lane leeds in 1871 which part of water lane would they be in.
