Im a third year student at Leeds Metropolitan University. Im currently doing a project on the building adjacent to Leeds Bridge, on Bridge End. The building is currently a restaurant, Xibit, with bridge lofts situated above it. Im struggling to find history on the building and the direct area. Can anyone help me? thank you

Yep Harriet. Have a look here. http://www.leedscivictrust.org.uk/trail.htm There's some stuff in it about Pitfall street that still stands today on the other side of Leeds bridge. Water from the river was pumped to near to St johns church near the Merrion center for distribution around the city many years ago. It doesn't sound very healthy mind you. Also the Middleton railway ran near Leeds bridge to some coal staithes as long ago as 1758.

yes....I found that out by fluke whilst writing a report on the area. Which coincided very well as I have chosen to redesign the building for photographers. The more I design, the more I want the proposal to take place. Obviously as a degree project it wont, but I am getting more and more interested as I go along. I just need further background information!

Guess Harriet will be long gone by now but your mention of Pitfall Street reminds me that a motorist turned into there one night and drowned, think it would be in the late 1950s / 60s.
Would the Y.E.P. have a record of this ?.
