Re: Shipley Glen Dodgems
Firstly thanks to Buffaloskinner for directing me to this thread.
I loved Shipley Glen fun fair, visited it in very early 60's as a child and then many times over the years up until it's closure. My mum and Dad had a caravan at Dubrudden Farm not far away from 66 to 75 and during that time I must have gone 100's of times, we lived at the van every school holiday.
I remember the peacocks, the boat ride in one of the big houses' garden, the aviary, the fish, the Penny arcade, all the rides including the Autodrome which was like a speedway except it had cars around the edge instead of motorbikes, the Aerial Glide, the best most nostalgic ride ever!, the dodgems and best of all the tramway.
My Grandparents took my Dad in the 1920's on a charabanc trip from Hunslet, it was considered a huge day out back then.
My Dad took me in the 60's and I took my children in the 80's. Sadly my grandchildren will only have our stories. It was a very sad day when it closed.
I have attached a pic of my son having a ride on the Aeriel Glide, mentioned earlier.

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?
