I have been having a hunt through some old pics I have on my laptop and came across this one attached.Went here a few years ago and found a plaque in the bushes that was erected by the Kirkby Overblow History Group. A translation..."Located just in front of you, at the confluence of the Wetton Beck and the river Wharfe, Rougemont Castle is the remains of an ancient Ringwork, a type of fortification which occurs from the late Anglo-Saxon period to the early Middle Ages. The administrative centre for the manor of Harewood, it comprised a D-shaped fortified enclosure, bounded by a bank and surrounding ditch. Masonary remains indicate the bank was probably surmounted by a wall. The ringwork contained he residence of the lord of the manor along with other domestic buildings. An outer bank and a ditch surrounding the ringwork to the west north and east enclosed the bailey which would have contained the garrison and the utility buildings and pens for coralling stock and horses. The location of some of these features is indicated by the presence of platforms and earthworks. To the west of the site a marshy area reflects the remains of the former fishpond to serve the mansion. The site was abolished in c.1366 when Harewood Castle was built as a sloping spur on land to the south of the River Wharfe"Though it might be of interest although as described little remains apart from large earthworks and bits of ditch!

Map attached shows Rougemont in Red, samilar shape to the original post. Harewood Castle in blue on Harewood Bank on the corner.Yellow is the Harewood Bridge, which incidentally has a "lost pub" by it. The house on the left just after the bridge going towards Harrogate was originally a pub but I cant remember the name. I think this is classed as North Yorks though as it is on the wrong side of the wharfe, but still interesting due to its relationship with Harewood Castle which is i guess Leeds.

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Technically in Harrogate yes/ maybe. But in postal district terms it is still Leeds as in LS17.
