When did the figures that you can see on old photos disappear? Also - has anyone ever been up inside the dome? Or on the outside balcony? What's behind those high up windows?

Ha ha.. There's loads of things I'd like to look at. Thornton's arcade is one of them. Not the bits we normally see either.

I'm not giving up on this one! Here are the figures, courtesy Leodis. The first image shows them in situ in 1932. Still there in 1956 but gone by 1964.
